Optical brighteners make an irreversible chemical bond with the skin and exposure is more or less permanent as we are always in contact with some kind of material. Ecover will not use optical brighteners in ANY of our laundry detergents. In addition to the problems they cause to skin they do not increase the washing effect, nor the hygiene of your wash. **New pioneering ingredients - New Formula Laundry Liquid The improved formula Laundry Liquid uses a pioneering new ecological ingredient that has been the result of extensive research and collaboration with an ingredient supplier. The new ingredient is made from rapeseed oil (non GMO) and its benefits include its low foaming properties. Foam is detrimental to the washing process and can result in up to 50% of the washing power being lost. Conventional laundry powders contain substances such as silicones to control foaming, but Ecover prefer not to use such environmentally risky ingredients. This new surfactant is combined with a sugar detergent, which is currently one of the best ingredients available in terms of environmental impact and washing effectiveness. Ecovers new laundry liquid formula offers superior cleaning properties and exceptional ecological properties. The toxicity to aquatic organisms of the improved formula to aquatic organisms is ten times lower on average than the toxicity of conventional liquid laundry detergents.
