Description

As usual with Common Ground this handbook compiled by them is so inspiring. It offers both philosophy and practical advice to anyone who would like to become a Community Orchardist. A Community Orchard is a place where local and other varieties of top fruit are grown by and for local people.

Every place, every community is different so there is no one formula. With twenty years of experience behind them of championing orchards, Common Ground, together with the experience of many people who have started and are running common orchards are the right people to tell all.
In this book there is so much detail, authoritative advice, guidance of wildlife and management.
There are chapters on how to plant, prune and graft fruit trees, not only apple trees but varieties of pears, perry pears, plums, damsons and cobnuts. All these are well worth growing and need conserving, and will add richness and local distinctiveness of your place. Other chapters on what to do with the harvest, celebrations and safeguarding your orchard.

Full of wonderful colour photographs, even if you cannot get involved with a Community Orchard this book is a wonderful read.
